# Errors

> Every error is JSON with a message written for a person.

The message is stable enough to match on.

| Status | Meaning | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| 400 | A parameter is malformed or out of range. The message names it. | Fix the request. |
| 401 | No key, or an unknown or revoked one. | Check the header; ask Nomos. |
| 403 | A route keys may not use. | Use the routes in this reference. |
| 404 | `not found` (unknown path, malformed id), `market not indexed`, `round not recorded`. | Check the id. |
| 429 | Over your rate, or more than 4 requests (2 streams) at once. | Wait `Retry-After` seconds. |
| 431 | The query string is too long (over 16 KB, a very long `wallets=` list). | Split the list. |
| 500 | The indexer failed to answer. Nomos sees these. | Retry with backoff, a few times. |
| 503 | A part is off or not ready: `trades are off`, `trade history is still loading`, `the leaderboard is not built yet`, `wallet profiles are off` and similar. | Retry later. |
